1. Croatian Islands
Easily accessible from the Dalmatian coast – and best explored by yacht or private sailboat – the Croatian islands are made up of charming, quiet towns that offer a respite from the bustling cities of Dubrovnik and Split. Two of the must-see destinations are Hvar and Korcula, with their seaside restaurants, medieval architecture and Gothic and Renaissance cathedrals. Another popular stop is Brac, home to a handful of hermit monasteries. Rovinj has a hilltop cathedral and narrow streets filled with art galleries, wine bars and chic boutiques, and visitors to the Brijuni Islands can visit the private safari park of former Yugoslav statesman Josip Broz Tito. Charter boats also allow travelers to access uninhabited islets and isolated beaches without tourists. Indagare tip: Start or end your rental in Kotur, Montenegro.
2. Greek Islands
A private cruise around the Greek islands and coastline allows visitors to discover unspoiled landscapes, magnificent architecture and important archaeological sites. Highlights include stops in Paros, a stunning island famous for its marble and a host of cultural events that attract a global audience, and Antiparos, less touristy, with beautiful green and blue waters, pristine beaches and stunning stalagmite caves. Admire the temple of Poseidon overlooking the Aegean Sea at Sounio, the impressive clock tower and the beautiful old houses of Hydra, as well as the ancient theater of Epidaurus. Follow one of ATI Yachts’ favorite itineraries or create your own.
3. Saint-Tropez and the French Riviera
A boat trip in the south of France is a great way to avoid the famous summer crowds in the region. Highlights include the Esterel Coast, a picturesque stretch of red rock cliffs that drop into a perfect blue sea, and the Lerins Islands off Cannes, with their dusty eucalyptus-shaded paths, jade- and amethyst-colored coves, and countless opportunities for beach dining. In addition to cruises to the outer islands and lively beach clubs, these waters also offer whale and dolphin watching. Indagare works with a wide variety of boats on the Riviera, ranging from Fun Yaks (small boats that do not require a license) to skippered Riva Operas, to majestic sailboats and luxury yachts available by the day or for longer charters.
4. Caribbean
The turquoise waters of the Caribbean offer a multitude of options for those traveling by yacht. The British Virgin Islands, made up of four large islands and about 50 small cays, feature romantic green peaks, pristine beaches and some of the best diving and snorkeling in the region. With a private boat, travelers can also take island-hopping tours through neighboring island groups – starting with St. Lucia and moving down to the Grenadines, which include Mustique and Canouan – to experience the Caribbean in all its glory.
5. Galapagos
The best way to discover the Galapagos Archipelago is by boat, which offers travelers the greatest flexibility and the most personalized experience. The Galapagos are composed of 13 main islands, six smaller islands and more than 40 uninhabited islets. The most interesting islands are Fernandina, where you can see sea lions and iguanas, Floreana, where you can snorkel, and the remote Wolf and Darwin Islands, where you can see the ocean life for which the Galapagos is famous, including schools of hammerheads, whale sharks and pods of killer whales. Keep in mind that there are many regulations in place to protect the islands and that the government dictates the itineraries (visitors cannot customize their itinerary and the number of boats allowed to visit the area is strictly limited).
